Something New | Learning Embroidery

Hello everyone! This is a different kind of post today (compared to the never-ending travel series recently). I thought I'd share with you one of my favorite pastime activities, embroidery! This is definitely my go-to whenever I need to switch-off and relax (with some coffee of course).

For my mum's birthday this year, I bought her an embroidery kit, I knew she would like it as she is so creative and loves to make beautiful dresses for kid's in Africa (you go mum!). As well as giving her this gift, I promised that I would learn it with her over the summer when I got back from Uni. Our little embroidery project started with learning the basics by sitting on the sofa together, watching tutorials and drinking tea. It took a while to get the hang of it, but we loved it! So much so that we brought our lil embroidery kits with us on holidays to Florida. With the daily thunder storms and torrential rain showers there, the best thing for us to do to pass the time was to curl up on the sofa and continue our embroidery. Some of you may have already seen this, but this is what I made...

Now, this sits on my wall in my Uni room and it's so cute, it has inspired me to continue adding to my wall, I'll have to show you guys some time!

As well as making framed embroidery pieces, I adore up-cycling old tops and jeans to make them new again. I have a pair of mom jeans from Topshop, bought second hand from Depop, which I managed to stupidly make a hole in. So, I decided to embroider over the hole and create a new and very unique pair of mom jeans.

For my housemates (and BFF's) birthday, I asked her to chose out a t-shirt so I can make a cute little design, tailored to her favorite things in the world, cats. I made this while binging Friends which is probably the best combo to relax with, in my opinion. This lil design was inspired by a pin I found on Pinterest, it's unbelievable the amount of embroidery inspiration you can find there! Speaking of which, I made a pretty large Pinterest board all on embroidery, why not have a look to inspire you too? You can find it here.

So there you have it. I love trying new things, whether that is a skincare routine or in this case, embroidery. Some people may look at this and think, but I'm not creative I can never make designs like the ones I see on Pinterest... Well all I can say is, I thought the same, however with practice, I have made pretty cool designs and really enjoyed every minute of it. I hope my lil hobby will inspire you too to start something new that you will come to love!
